It isn't "Judeo" Christian. It's Fundamentalist Christian. And it isn't even all of them-- just one. And all his congregation.

I no longer feel I live in a country that accepts my religion. I live in a country that tolerates it. And not even that in far too many places.

There's too much to say. I'm overwhelmed, and overwhelmingly depressed and scared. I'm going to spend this weekend locked in my apartment watching West Wing DVDs and planning how much money I can send to MoveOn, Planned Parenthood, and the Sierra Club. If anyone wants to join me, you're welcome to. Misery loves company-- especially if it brings Pepsi.

It's too strange watching that movie. Martin Sheen is President Bartlett, after all, not Vice President A.J. MacInerney.

Someone tell Michael Douglas to get his ass out of the Oval Office so Bartlett can get back to work.

I accept you!

Hope you accept me too!

I'm sure we are very different in many areas, but that is what makes us unique. We need differences to help each of us grow. It is sad that most people can't tolerate views different from their own.

I'm still waiting for you to call for dinner. Would really like to get to know you & your beliefs. I would call you, but don't have your #.

[matt] It is not ALL fundamentalist Christian. Fundamentalists do not number anywhere near as much as the rest of the Christian sects (thankfully). There are a large number of Christian groupings that, if they lived in the midwest and had no other life experience to show them otherwise would probably have voted for Bush simply on the basis that he was Christian.

Judeo-Christian is an expression that groups together any religions that follow the same God worshipped by Judaism or any of those aforementioned Christian sects, or anyone deriving from either one. That grouping of people is now being associated with the voters that support Bush because of moral concerns. However incorrect the association may be, and I'm guessing at how you saw the term such that you'd react to it.

Heck, there were only 2 candidates, really. If one was so sold on the God concept and it ruled life, and one felt that one had to use it in political choices, which candidate broadcasted it more? (I don't think these people cared much about freedom of religion, just that their candidate was close enough to theirs, etc.)

I'm not sure I understand the part where you're saying this country doesn't accept your religion, but only tolerates it. What is the ideal you look for? Shouldn't every religion be tolerated, and no more than that? Tolerance IS acceptance in many countries, and many wish they had that much.
