Sweet Mother of Rabbits!
May. 24th, 2012 05:16 amI haven't updated since NOVEMBER? How can THAT be?
Gah. There's a lot going on, as ever, and I'm still trying to stay ahead of the mental curve. I got thrown for a loop a few months ago, and I'm still trying to process both what happened, and how it fits into my personal worldview. It was bad, but it's shown me that I really have to learn that when bad things happen to me-- truly big, bad things-- it's okay to say, "I'm not over this yet, and that's fine. I'll be better when I'm better. Don't feel guilty for feeling bad." Then on top of that, I was told a week and a half ago that I have some permanent hearing loss. As I always use protection in any loud situation-- earplugs for every concert, club night, etc.-- the doctor thinks it may be genetic. When I told my mother, she said yes, both she and my father have some hearing loss. Which they'd never told me. So while there's nothing I could have done differently-- I think?-- I am beyond furious that I was never told this might happen. It is, unfortunately, the way my family has always dealt with health issues. I have literally begged my parents for years to tell me if there's anything I need to know both for them and for myself, and have always been brushed off. So here I am: kind of blindsided. And kind of hard-of-hearing. Greeeeat.
Work, now, on the other hand, is going well. I'm still very much a small business, but I have some big projects I'm working on that are keeping me very busy. I'm doing a thunderstorm in wedding gown form, based on a Charles Frederick Worth gown of 1890. I'm also doing another wedding dress in the style of a Russian Imperial Court gown of 1900. The TARDIS corset is still gathering interest worldwide, and I finished the Companion Cube outfit, three Assassin's Creed corsets, and the TRON corset. I have a commission for a Tetris Corset, and a GLaDOS corset. I start the new Snape cassock soon. My geek: let me show you it.
Shows...let's see. Did Steampunk World's Fair this past weekend, and it was my fourth show in four weeks. I'm STILL wiped out. Dorian's, then my beloved Fairie Fest, then the new-to-me Zenkaikon, then SWF. I finished the Tea Party Corset for FF (as in tea, not politics) and it went viral on Facebook. That was delightful. I have lots of stock to take around, now, though it never seems quite enough.
So yeah, it's been a roller coaster. At least it isn't dull, right?
