Ugh. And not.
Nov. 11th, 2011 08:05 amHad a fantastic show last weekend in Piscataway. Sold a good number of corsets-- for once!-- and had to stop one of my minions from committing me to commissions I haven't yet worked out. All in all, though, delightful. Not one but TWO Assassin's Creed corsets-- not technically difficult at all: just painted stomachers, and once I do the stencil, I can do both at once. I rather enjoy painting the silk, so that'll be nice.
I'm dying to get the TARDIS corset finished. Caitlin found some conductive velcro, and I'm tempted to see if we can take out all the snaps and redo them. Except that she spent hours soldering all those damned things, and would most likely kill me if I asked. Not the most glamorous way to die, I think-- a soldering iron through the skull.
And of course, as usual, I came home from a show and promptly got sick. I wonder if it's because I spend so much time alone that being in crowds inevitably makes me ill? Except that now I think on't, I'm not actually alone that much any more. There's always someone here to work, or for a fitting, or just to hang out. Which is very nice! Anyway, this time, it wasn't one of my titanic colds or URIs. No, this time it was a 24-hour stomach bug. Since dinner Wednesday night, I've had two pieces of bread, a little cheese, a third of a cup of Jell-O, and some flat Pepsi. This, of course, after some magnificent Indian food on Tuesday, and fabulous sushi on Wednesday. And no, before you ask, I think I was starting to feel a bit off before then-- I just ignored it. Well, I was having such a lovely time with Annie, wandering West Philly, hitting the used bookstore....
Probably doing Philcon in a week and a half, and then...hm. Then I don't think MayFaire Moon has any major shows til Wicked. I have Dorian's Parlor, of course, but that's old hat now, bless it. I DID apply for Arisia, but no word back on that, yet. So. We shall see. A little downtime wouldn't be the worst thing. And anyway, I need to get my new-to-me Bernina overhauled. The needle keeps falling out. No lie. What kind of manic, evil power do I have over sewing machines?!

Date: 2011-11-12 04:53 am (UTC)Have you ever heard of the Bernina 930? It's the Holy Grail of sewing machines. Although they were produced in the 80s, many of them still sell for $1,000 and up. The stitches are beautiful, and the machine can handle any fabric from duck to the lightest silk. My mother, a professional seamstress, used one for over 20 years. I foolishly bought her an expensive, computerized Bernina to replace it when I saw the sticker price on a used 930. It was a mistake. I'm going to have Mama's 930 rebuilt and continue to look for one for me.
