Ten must have seen River Song at some point. Several points. Otherwise, she would have known from the first moment she showed up that her message had arrived too early, and that he wouldn't know her.

The new series is supposed to have the crash of the Byzantium, about which she asks Ten. It happens, of course, with Eleven. How are they going to fix that, you think?

But we already know that there are a lot of adventures that were not shown on the TV series. Also, we have no idea how much time travelling River Song is capable of.

Yes. And she implies that, married or not, they don't live together.

But all their adventures would have had to have taken place between the end of Series Four and his regeneration. He does indeed say in End of Time that he got married, but implies that's to Queen Elizabeth. And a whole relationship and marriage-- a serious marriage-- that's a lot to imply, don't you think?

Not at all. We have no idea how long it was, and time is not linear, remember, it's a whole bunch of ooey gooey timey wimey...stufff.

Yeah, but this is RTD. He would have thrown in SOMETHING about it.

Oh, and he says he had a bit of fun before visiting the Ood, and they say he shouldn't have waited so long, but I don't think they're talking years of his life. I mean, it's possible, but it doesn't feel right.

It's as long as the plot needs it to be. :)

and i thought she commented something like he was so different and yet still the doctor. which would imply that she was not married to 10, and probably implies that she hadn't seen 10 before.

can River song time travel at all??
i thought she summoned him via the psychic paper, and that she was just doing regular space travel - but in trying to summon him she got the "closest" version of him. but it's entirely possible i got it wrong, lol

I think it grid to think this one out before. I don't believe that river actually needed to have seen ten at all ever outside of the library. Al she knows is she called for the doctor and a man showed up in a TARDIS. Hence the man was an incarnation of the doctor. I get the feeling that she was confused because she thought he was a newer version she had not met yet( but they would still know each other) when in fact he was an older verson she had not seen a photo of and therefore they were still strangers.

Exactly as I was thinking. She doesn't know that ten is ten - for all she knows, he's twelve, or seventy-two. She knows that he changes bodies, knows his personality (as much as she can, as it changes) and she might even be married to him through a few different incarnations, and this is just one she hasn't seen yet.

its not exactly like he runs around with a camera making a scrapbook, lol

and he's got the screwdriver and the attitude...i mean didn't sara jane recognize him in that school episode like that? kind of "you must be the doctor but you don't look like MY doctor"

The Doctor hates knowing his own future, because it limits him and he needs to avoid paradox. River Song telling 10 his name then forces him to tell her later and eventually give her a screwdriver, otherwise, paradox.

It's a nice little trick of the circular nature of time travel. 11's (and perhaps 12's) jaunts have been predestined by 10's interaction with Song and her "death", otherwise he might never have met her later.

Makes your head hurt if you think about it too much.

No matter how it's done, it will be intriguing.
