'Doctor Who' star David Tennant is 'Not Your Lawyer'

David Tennant is going from being a doctor in Britain -- well, the Doctor -- to playing a lawyer on these shores.

Former "Doctor Who" star Tennant has been named as the lead of NBC's comedy-drama "Rex Is Not Your Lawyer," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The actor would play Rex, no longer a lawyer thanks to debilitating anxiety. Instead, Rex teaches his clients to represent themselves in court.

"Heroes" and "Life" pilot helmer David Semel will direct the pilot and executive produce. No word, though, on when "Rex" will appear in NBC's schedule.

"Doctor Who," meanwhile, is continuing with Matt Smith in the title role.
