ysobelleThis morning, I took Marble up to Hickory Run Veterinary Hospital, since my own vet doesn't have that kind of equipment. Marble's gall bladder is something Dr. Reetz, the radiologist, had never seen before. It seems like it's filled with little pellets or granules-- no, not like gallstones. But the duct isn't blocked, either. Her lymph nodes are slightly enlarged, as is her spleen and liver. She told me there were several possibilities. This could be some kind of infection. It could be something they can't pin down. And it could be lymphoma. She said if it were, it was probably a less aggressive kind, which would probably respond to chemo.
We made the decision not to go for invasive biopsies, which would involve opening her up, but to try sonogram-guided needle aspiration, which could also be done immediately and with far less stress on her system. She's now down a little over half her body weight-- she's fragile, and I don't have time to fuck around.
Dr. Radbill, her usual vet, called this evening. He's putting her on a broad-spectrum antibiotic, prednisone, and a drug to try to clear sludge out of her gall bladder. I'll go get those in the morning and start her on them immediately. She can't afford to lose more weight.
So that's where we are now. Marble's hiding in the closet-- she's shaved in odd bits all over, and I'd imagine not very happy about that. She was slightly anesthetised this morning, so she's still a little groggy. Still eating, though, and still coms to see what's on whenever I step into the kitchen. We'll think good thoughts, and go from there.
