Tea at PARF this season, like [livejournal.com profile] snugglyevil proposed. But let's make it something new and very, very different:

Renaissance Steampunk.

Weird? Yes. Creative? HELL, yes! Now we just have to figure out when. Not Labor Day weekend, cos I think I'll be in Atlanta, but one day. Yes? I'm dying to see what people come up with!

You know I'm all over that!

Holy Crow, this would be my third steampunk outfit slated for the next 12 months.

I will come out for that weekend. I am working on "steampunking" up my new outfit from you.

How about October-ish, when it is a bit cooler.

Yes, October sounds great to me too.

Okay - I'll bite... so - are we allowing for victorian era tech to mesh with renaissance style (a mashup of costuming styles)? or should we be developing renaissance-era-appropriate tech?

I'm gonna go with the latter. I think.

But then, this is the ultimate DIY style movement!

We're forging new ground... creating a fashion statement!

Whee!

Oh what have you done... I now have a sketch for a "computational bracer"... leather with an attached miniature abacus, a small hourglass, compass, sundial, and miniature sextant, all connected with gears and pull chains (like clock workings)...

Yes-- YES, absolutely! That's EXACTLY what I was thinking.

I'm going to have to go dig up a copy of Leonardo DaVinci's tech sketches, and research Elizabethan clocks....

What if DaVinci's inventions did exist and actually worked in the renaissance? There would be a need for industry. Parachutes, machine guns, airplanes - lots of inventions made for military. ::ponder more::

Looks like toothed gears were available as were eyeglasses. Ooo! The Submarine Captain, the Aviator..

Shek it out: Leonardo's machines actually created in Florence:

Oo. Leonardo made a device for making sequins for clothing.

I'm overanalyzing here.

I consider steampunk a science fiction fantasy style existing in an era where steam power was primarily used - thus set in the Victorian or Edwardian era. There can be two views: renaissance punk (relabeled as DaVincipunk? Astropunk? Alchemypunk?...) should follow the same lines or is simply a replacing of the Victorian era with the Renaissance era. The sci-fi element allows for the existence of modern technology adapted to the time in either case.

Gah, see what you started Nikki?

See, now, you beat me to it-- I was just thinking what would make up RenPunk. The Elizabethans had clocks and even watches, so gears would still work. The Renaissance was a virtual EXPLOSION of technology, just as the Victorian age was some three hundred years later.

Oh, what this could mean for my business.... SUCH creative possibilities!

Oooh - I like Alchemypunk...

*runs off to be creative*

As in steampunk, there could be characters.
The Alchemist, the Engineer, the Architect, the Artist, the Astrologist...

Definitely. I'm thinking the Adventurer Poetess.

Do you have ANY idea how long it's been since I had a character at Faire?
