Just to be clear.
Mar. 11th, 2009 02:56 pmThe letter I posted? I don't think it's a scam, I know it's a scam. I was over in Northern Liberties earlier today, as well, and the property listed looks nothing like the one pictured. It's a very nice house, but not the same one. Also, this person is male, but with a woman's name for an eddress. Oh, and let's see: they can't speak English, but have a high-ranking position with an American organisation. They took the keys and paperwork with them in case they want to move into the house-- in three years. But they're still trying to rent it. And there's that red-flag line that if you're not capable of taking good care of the house, please be so kind as to not write back.
No. It's absolutely a scam. There are warnings about such things on Craig's List, and I'll report this one, too.
What I'm looking for is a space with, well, SPACE. I have several wedding dresses coming up, one with a ten-foot train. And I have nowhere to do a fitting on that. I need somewhere with light, space, and-- in an ideal world-- hardwood floors. I need space for a work area, and a lot of storage. I have to have a washer and dryer of my own for the rare times I do dyework. I'd love a whole house, and I'd love a yard for the dog. I've seen a few lofts I loved, so I'd be willing to compromise there. But the space is a must.
I also don't ever want a cop to look at me and say, "You know you live in a bad neighbourhood, right?" I don't want to have my neighbour's cars shot up any more. I want to be able to walk Clue at night and not feel uncomfy. And I'm not giving up my dog or the three cats.
I was looking in Manayunk, or Main-Line-ish. A little west of the city is closer to faire, but not too far from my family and job, so that's good. I don't mind being in the city, either, but it's incredibly expensive. NoLib is good, but the Northeast, no.
Hey, Shawn-- houses in that neighbourhood? Hell, yeah. You busy tonight?

Date: 2009-03-11 07:40 pm (UTC)We just went by the place on Monday, since we were in the area. Looks like they're gutting it entirely and redoing it. They didn't have the chance to do that with it before we moved in because of the timeline.
