Good evening:

I'm interested in the house you have listed. Might it be possible to arrange a showing?

Does this scream scam to you?

Unfortunately, yes.

I also feel like I've looked at this location before. Nothing is obviously this house, based on Google Maps StreetView, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

Do keep us informed as to what happens!

It's a great spot. And the house that's actually there is new construction-- no one's even moved in yet, looks like. Not the house in the posting at all.

Bwuh?

I am trying to wrap my head around how that could be considered a proper reply to asking for a showing of a property...

*scratches head*

And yeah - doesn't quite sound kosher to me...

I'm keen on the marathon grill. There is one on 19th street. Noon is usually good. Call me when you are en route.

Scam or not, it's definitely bizarre. You asked a very straightforward simple question, and he gives you his life's story...badly written, I might add. I'd say definitely proceed with caution.

What sort of housing are you looking for? I have a friend with something on the market.. heck, now that I think about it... two separate friends with two separate places... let me know... I thought one of them was supposed to be on craigslist... but I can't find it right now.

It's bizarre and reads like a form letter.

..and if his name is Jamal Goldsworthy, it's a scam.

ETA: I realise that the location is different, but the other information all matches (tone, wording, age of the daughter, "vinyard of the Lord", etc.)

*ding ding ding*

I think we have a "winner" here.... *sighs*

To "ensure confidence", they'll probably ask for bank account and other personal/financial information, etc., then drain/use whatever information they get.

Nice catch.

I did some digging too, and the same e-mail account has two other properties - one in Kansas City, and one in Honolulu... all three addresses come up on Google Maps as not existing - at least not as the property is described (all three are business locations, not homes/apartments)... and the photos for the Kansas City location apparently has two kitchens...

I figured that confirmed this was a scam right there...

Here, here. Poor English sets off all my alarm bells and unfortunately I haven't been wrong yet, bad as that sounds. Emitting a continuous tone for the reasons everyone else has already listed, but thought I'd mention that anything that sounds like it's written by a five year old is probably not for real.

...which is a bummer, as I recently got a similar letter inquiring about what would have been a $2,000 order =( Foo on these people and their evil false hope-raising ways!

It's pretty much exactly the same thing. They have the keys with them in Spain? Riiight. And it'll cost me how much to get them sent to me? Uh huh.

Also? Only asking for a $700 deposit? And the house is already undervalued for the neighbourhood? Suuuure.

Sigh. Why'd I even bother?

Date: 2009-03-11 07:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fiannaharpar.livejournal.com
It's so frustrating.

What was kind of sad is that the $700 figure wouldn't have pinged me. That's in the ballpark for what is described in the market that I live in.

It was the stunted language and *way* too much information that made me go "hmmm".

Hey, I wanted to tell you that there are a few homes for rent in and around havertown. Nice dog walking neighborhoods (without any occasional drive bys). Let me know if you want to check it out sometime.

And dinner...next week?

Yes to both. I wanna get out of here, like, NOW.
