I took my car in yesterday for its 60k tune-up, for which it was grossy overdue. They called today. His first words? "You know you're out of inspection, right?"

In addition to the very expensive tune-up, I need rotors, struts, brakes, four new tires, etc. It will cost me almost $2,000.

So much for having a good show last weekend.

OUCH! It could have been worse...You could have had a bad show last weekend and the car repairs.

Two words: Second Opinion:)

The tires I can see, but then rest seems like 'hassle the chick for more money' tactics to me if you only have 60k on it.

I have found that no freelance check goes unpunished. (For example: check comes in, property insurance is due! check comes in, water heater dies!)

OUCH!

I second [livejournal.com profile] elisabella in that you should get a second opinion.

Trying to find the positive - you did so well at Wicked last week that you can afford to get your car fixed?

::tight hugs:: I'm sorry the repairs are that costly, hon. Is it possible to take it to another shop where it might be less expensive?

It has been my belief that the cars listen when we say it was a good show so we no longer speak of money when in it.
Though I do reccommend a second opinion. Hmmm, too bad you cannot get it to our guy in Havertown. He's scary good and honest to boot.

Having spent about, oh, over $1K on Bartok in the past few months, I sympathize. :(

Do you have a garage that will do the bare minimum to keep you safe and inspected? Tires and struts sound like they could maybe wait - rotors and brakes surprise me, because I don't think you're someone that would drive your car into the ground by ignoring the 'please help me' sounds brakes make when they need to be replaced.

Hugs..

I hope you don't wind up needing all that, but maybe it's a case of the world providing money when you really need it before you know you need it ^_~.

For pete's sake, you whiners

I was, for five years, an ASE certified mechanic. I've owned mostly Hondas myself (with the rare exceptions of a few GM hotrods and a 928).

Most Hondas need a major service at 60k miles. And all you skeptics do know that Yso lives in a northern, urban area?? That does result in significantly shorter service intervals. There is obviously much increased stress on any vehicle because of short trips, more idling, heavier steering inputs, cold weather, etc., etc.

That bill seems about right to me. And I say this with my current Accord (205,000 miles) never needing ANY unscheduled maintenance other than a new radiator. My old Civic went 240,000 and was still running great when I sold it. No "second opinion" was needed here. She did the right thing. Ever hear that old saying, "An ounce of prevention"? It holds doubly true for cars.
