Today was delightful. Mostly.
Dec. 1st, 2008 12:09 amAnd for once, I actually mean that. Really.
I got lost on the way out to Harrisburg to meet
foxglove_8778 at her brother's new house. Once again, second time in a row, Google Directions let me down-- this time by simply being staggeringly unclear. But said excellent brother, Peter/Matt, talked me in, and I arrived without further incident, though the drive itself was rather annoying: rain, mist, low visibility, slow traffic-- the whole nine yards. I wound up being over an hour late. Gr.
However, all was well in the end. While my primary reason for zipping out two hours west was to see
foxglove_8778 and her family and P/M's amazing new house, she had a nefarious plan: she was playing matchmaker. I thought I knew about this plan going in, but I hadn't realised just how far she'd nurtured it.
I met C at her wedding. He was very nice, very friendly, and very taken. That last no longer being the case, I said, "Well, he's still cute." She asked if she could pass on that comment. And oh, didn't she just. I don't think I've ever had anyone ask my friends what the best way to impress me might be. Isn't that sweet? So today there was a lot of amiable flirting, some very enjoyable hanging out, and a fabulous Second Thanksgiving at her parents' house in Carlisle. (I was VERY good, and resisted the siren call of the last buttermilk biscuit. Go, me!)
Sadly, however, C had to leave early. He had to go visit his mother, and then travel home. To Chicago. Alas. Well, at least today was fun!
After some overfull food coma whingeing,
foxglove_8778 and I decided to jaunt over to Annville to visit
imafon. On the way, we stopped at the Scary Wal*Mart-- though not one that had murderous stampedes. This one DID have my lipstick, though, so I restocked. Then it was onwards to
imafon's. There was much chatting, much gossiping, much canoodling with the two new three-week-old kittens she'd rescued, with her two hyper-eager boxers, her three kids, her father, and her VERY LOUD husband, the fabulous Tony. We won't mention the fish. But then suddenly,
imafon got a wicked glint in her eye, and said, "Roadtrip!"
We wound up at the new sushi steakhouse up the road a bit from faire that I'd so been longing to try out. Oh, sweet baby jebus. It's right across from the South China Buffet we always go to, so it's not like it's too far to drive. And oh, there shall be many, many more trips there in my future. I was delighted. And very much surprised when
imafon grabbed the check. Thank you, love-- you didn't have to do that.
By now, it was getting a bit late, so we headed back to
imafon's place, where I said my adieus in an attempt to get back on the road before I got too tired. And really, it would have all worked out had there not been an accident on 72 just before the Turnpike. I had to lean on the horn to get the attention of the older gentleman desultorily waving a traffic flashlight. I asked him how I could get to the Turnpike, and he said, "Get off here, go up the road to the light, and make a right."
Worst. Directions. Ever.
The nearest traffic light is perhaps ten miles away-- he was sending me all the way up 322 to Lititz, a fact he neglected to mention. Thankfully, I was able to get far better and more complete directions from
mirroreyes, and even managed to wave to her as I whizzed past her apartment. Her directions put me on the Turnpike an exit ahead of where I usually get on, so in the end, it worked out. Sort of.
So. I am exhausted, but fairly happy. I have emptied the dog, refilled the cats, and must now to bed so that I can work a full day of Retail Elysium tomorrow. (It's not Heaven, but neither is it Hell.) And somewhere in there, I have to lace and send out a corset.
Sweet dreams.
