I'm listening to the news this morning, and it's like a warm, happy shower: they keep talking about things like, "President-Elect Obama will...." and "Obama plans to...." G-d, it's just...G-d.
The thought of being able to follow politics again, and debate things, and know that there will be things I disagree with, but things I heartily support about the new administration...I've honestly forgotten what that's like. Liberals and Democrats in this country have been vilified for so long we've just developed a siege mentality.
I said last night that Democrats in this country have been the Philadelphia sports fans of politics. We spent a lot of the last two years thinking, "Okay, how are we going to lose this one?" Now we've all won the World Series and we're a bit bewildered.
But as long as we don't knock over a luggage store, we'll be just fine.

Date: 2008-11-05 02:14 pm (UTC)I hope, I devoutly hope, that President Obama is the kind of man whose intelligence and vision can win over such people, and that they will come to see him for the uplifting, unifying President I truly think he will be.
And if they can't, I must say to them, "Suck it up, buds. It's our turn now! WOOT!"
