So while I've been dealing with the rental office here in good faith, trying to figure out what happened to one check they say is missing and of which I have a cancelled copy, and one month I can't seem to find at all, and while the woman in the office has been making civil noises at me, bitch put an eviction notice on my door this weekend.

It's not like my rent checks have stopped coming. The entirely-missing check is from JULY. I've paid my rent every month here for EIGHT YEARS. I neither ignored her nor said I wasn't going to pay her. I've told her honestly that one check seems to be their problem, and one I'm still looking for. We've talked several times about this-- and I've been the one calling her, cos she can't seem to figure out how to pick up the phone and call me, even to tell me she never got the fax that has now been sent, oh, three or four times. Never once did she say, "This must get resolved now." Never once did she say anything about eviction.

I'm blindingly angry.

It doesn't help that all three of the measurement sheets from Salon Con have gone missing. I tore through every last place in this apartment they could conceivably be: nowhere to be found. Now I have to find some way to contact these women and get their measurements and information again.

Dammit.

certified mail.

Also pick up a copy of uhmm... http://www.amazon.com/Landlords-Legal-Pennsylvania-Survival-Guides/dp/157248666X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1224053190&sr=8-1 or something similar and/or web search it all.. lots of resources out there.

and hey, remember check 21.. your bank should have digital copies of all your checks.

As far as salon con, post to the group.. salon con group...

and then go relax and know everything will be okay...

especially when you start playing hardball with your asshole incompetent landlords.

The Delaware County Courthouse has the Department of Consumer Affairs, which deals with landlord/tenant issues. I would suggest filing a complaint with them, or at least talking to them to find out what your rights in this situation are.

I'm not certain, but I believe while she's rather close to delco, she still lives IN the bounds of the city of Philadelphia, so I assume she has to take any action with philadelphia county/city courts.

She only lives five minutes away from me, and I checked the zip code - she's in Delco County.

The city line is a few hundred yards away-- I'm actually inside the city. I kid you not.

And thank you so much!

I have nothing else to add in terms of directions to fight this. But me and Kate are here for you to help. Let us know what we can do (even if you just need to blow off some steam).

And if everything goes completely south (which I highly doubt because they really have no leg to stand on), we can help you look for another place.

I don't know about PA but I manage three rentals for my boss here in NY. You can't just evict someone for missing a rent payment if the tenant has a cancelled check. It's not that easy to start eviction proceedings if the tenant has only missed one rent payment in eight years. She's being a bitch and being a bitch doesn't stand up in court.

She's just rattling your cage. I don't understand why she can't just look for that cancelled check. Like the person said in the first post - send everything again certified mail. And keep that eviction notice. It will hurt her more than you.

All will be well.
HUGGLEZ!
