Let's say you have a big, important date -- one where you really want to look your best. Say, the prom! Yes, lots of people are planning to see how you clean up. They're all waiting for you. Bit of advice? Don't bail last-minute. Especially don't bail to go to the prom with someone else. Especially don't bail to go to the prom with someone else while your jilted date has cameras, lots of industry power, and an audience of millions.

Oh, and especially make sure your jilted date doesn't take someone else who's articulate, despises you, and also has a really big audience of people who really don't like you.

On another tack, if you're running for the highest office in the land, it might behoove you to demonstrate how well you multitask, and not allow your campaign to explode like a overworked old steam engine and come to a complete, crashing halt when a major crisis occurs. In the first place, you're not actually the President, buddy, so I think the responsibility may fall, at least in part, to others. And it would be nice to show the people whose votes you're trying to woo that yes, you can competently handle a crisis without having to short-shrift every other responsibility you have. The rest of the world isn't about to sit back quietly and pull out a book while we deal with our economic crisis. If Wall Street should, at some point in your theoretical Presidency, again have convulsions, I have a feeling most of those who might wish our country ill would be delighted to sharpen their claws just that bit more.

there was also a rally in Alaska of Women against Palin, and it seems the only real airtime it got was when a local shock jock came on the radio and called the organizers and protesters maggots and read the organizers' phone numbers on the air and invited his listeners to call them and harass them.

What no one down here knows is that there were more people at the anti-Palin demonstration than there were at the Palin Welcome Home rally.

In other news, I have to commend you for your correct use of the word "tack." I cannot tell you how many authors write, "on another tact."

I know-- like when people say, "He was given free reign." No. Nice thinking, but...no.

And I think the Palin coverage has gotten some good viral coverage, if nothing else. Of course, it could always be spread more....

My mind boggles. That's shitty behavior in the first place. But from someone who we may have to depend on to run our country?

That's it. I'm moving into the theatre and never coming out to face the "real world."

Yeah. Sometimes, I'm very, very happy to stay at faire.
