I'm pretty stunned at my own stupidity.

I was looking up information for biker, who asked me about yarmulkas the other day. And I happened to look up the dates for the High Holidays this year. You see this coming, right?

Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year, falls on Saturday, September 25th. It begins on Friday, at sundown. No, I'm not joking. Yes, I wish I were. And oh, G-d, do I feel dumb. I'm so sorry, guys-- I should have looked. It's not like I didn't know they were somewhere in there!

I'm going to be out of commission entirely for Saturday. I'll try to come out Saturday night, then, and join you all at the hotel. Friday night will probably be the pre-fast meal with my family, though I'll have to check.

I feel like such an idiot.

Well, if you aren't at the pre-fast meal with your family, perhaps you could do a pre-fast meal with friends?

Dunno much about Jewish traditions, though, so I'm not sure how feasible that is. I am disappointed that Saturday morning will not see us shrieking at the tops of our lungs, bouncing up and down, and hugging. I'm wishing I'd booked for an earlier weekend. :(

Do NOT feel dumb. You're not the only one upon whom Yom Kipput snuck up.

My (non-Jewish) mother has scheduled her wedding for Friday night. AFTER sundown. In a church. Reception to follow. With her Jewish daughter standing up for her.

When B. posted in her journal that she was going up to PARF that weekend, I shoulda opened my mouth and pointed out that you'd have a scheduling conflict too on Saturday. *I* feel stoopid because I'd spent the week before the plans were made, bitching about my mother and about how I'd miss the Corsairs at MDRF because of how Yom Kippur fell this year. I *knew* that weekend was the holiday and didn't pop into my head to mention it to B. when she was talking about making plans to go to PARF for late September.

Actually, luv.. you DID tell me. I just forgot and didn't think and THAT is why I am the stoopidist of all.

Yeah, but it's not as big a deal to him cos he's going to have to work that day, anyway. Dig?

And I talked about this with Jay months ago cos we needed to know what days he was going to have to be in PA to cover for me. And as I'm one of the nominal hosts, I should have known.

Gah.

Bm when ARE you coming? I just got John's letter today!

And he doesn't really observe the traditions too much, so it's not that big of a deal... true... but still. You'd think.

Don't beat yourself up over this. We already talked about it, and I think our solution solves a lot of little dilemmas. I just think we're going to have a smashing time. Even if we don't get to see you on Saturday. ... You'll still be around on Sunday to brighten a weary world. :)

Hopefully, I'll be out Saturday night. Not that you'll be...er...vertical.

And Melissa, I was actually asking you which weekend you're coming up, but I'm not sure what my keyboard thought I was asking. G-d, I wish you could edit comments around here.

Bwah! I thought that might have been what you were trying to ask.

The tentative game plan has us coming up for Pirates weekend. It's rather tentative, though, as it will depend in large part on my new job and several factors that won't line up until the 15th of August. We SO want to see you and come to play at your sandbox.

Yep

And Jay told you Yom Kippur was that weekend, also the last weekend of Tuxedo! Roshashana (spelling?) is mid week this year which is odd. Anywhom, I'll be covering the booth that Saturday, if you can cover it on Sunday.
