Day Three: Still Sick.
Mar. 20th, 2008 09:06 pmI was whiny to my Mom that I just didn't have the wherewithal to go out shopping. "Don't you have any friends who could shop for you?" "No," I replied, "But I do have a family."
Thank you SO much for all who have offered, but honestly? It's easier to let the fam help-- if they can be persuaded to do it. And that, of course, is the kicker. I'll usually drop everything when they ask-- lend my car, feed their dogs, water the plants-- but G-d forbid I need help. I'm too far away. (They live in Center City. Fifteen minutes, max.) They're too busy. Well, guess what? Suck it up. I spent fifteen minutes in Rite-Aid just now, and by the end of it, I felt like I was spiking a fever. So I'm home now, but at least I have Tylenol Night-Time Cold, tissues, chicken soup, and a gallon of orange juice. The woman at the register stopped me, pointed at the orange juice, and said, "You know that's $6, right?" "Er...yes?" I replied, not sure what she wanted me to say. Do I perhaps look like I don't have six dollars? Cos that's gonna suck, considering how much stuff I'm carrying. Is it perhaps that you feel six dollars is highway robbery for a gallon of orange juice? I'm not going to disagree, but don't you work here?
My Dad just called again. I told them there are no grocery stores that deliver down here to me. None. He refuses to believe me. He had to go to the website to check. Was I sure? I told him, yet again, I live in the 'hood. No, no one delivers here. "Are you sure?" "Dad, there are PROJECTS behind the school across the street. YES, I'M SURE."
"Oh. Well, when you feel better, we'll go shopping."
"If I FELT better, I could do my OWN damned shopping."
"Oh. Right. Well, I'll talk to Susan."
Yeah. Don't hurt yourself, there.
Did I mention the cranky?
