I got a call last night from Lisa Maile. She has my cat Marble's sister, Meadow. As of last night, she thought Meadow would have to be put to sleep today. Her kidneys are failing, and by the time they realised how serious the problem was-- cats are masters of hiding sickness-- it was almost too late.
I raised Meadow and Marble from feral kittens. The two of them and Simon went with me to Pgh ten years ago while I was at Carnegie Mellon. They were all kittens in a heap together. Simon took to humans immediately. Marble started liking me when she made the opposable thumbs=food connection. Meadow was a little slower to warm up, and had a terrible habit of peeing on things when she stressed. That last was why I agreed to let Lisa keep her after she cat-sat the three of them and fell in love with Meadow.
Lisa hasn't called me today to tell me how the second-opinion went with a second vet. I don't know what that means.
