So I wound up going to my parents' house last night, and gave them their presents, and got mine. I got COSTUME BOOKS! WOOT! My Amazon wishlist, which told me nothing had been purchased, LIED to me. It LIED. One book is about the 18th century gowns at the museum in Merseyside (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1902700015/ref=wl_it_dp?ie=UTF8&coliid=I1UTJ36AR3MK27&colid=1RFL0Z2PETWTA), which I may have to go see when I go over there. I got one called "Garb: A Fashion and Culture Reader" (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0131119109/ref=wl_it_dp?ie=UTF8&coliid=I38ZI97DVYKF7R&colid=1RFL0Z2PETWTA), and another very interesting one on the fashion industry in Florence in the Renaissance (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0801869390/ref=wl_it_dp?ie=UTF8&coliid=IRQWXXPKAX4X&colid=1RFL0Z2PETWTA). And a $100 American Express Gift Card. I'm very tempted to use it to buy other things off my wishlist, though I'd love to use some of it, I've just realised, to buy fabric for myself to make street clothing. I'd LOVE to make two or three more of those dresses I love. Even Sarah asked why I always wear my green velvet dress, though she was perfectly satisfied by my answer. ("Because I made it, and it's the most comfortable thing ever, and I love it. And I don't care much about having lots of clothes.")

I have to think about this. Usually, I let gift cards sit forever-- not this time.

Oh, and, of course, though it wasn't precisely a Christmas gift, the class-- whatever it turns out to be.

ETA:

STOP THE PRESSES! Woot! By golly, I already have a huge pile of midnight blue stretch velvet I'd forgotten about. That's gonna be a dress for meee! WOOT!

WOOHOO! I recently splurged on a bunch of fabric for street clothes, too. It's fabulous - even the most posh "street" dress doesn't take NEARLY as much fabric as a historic gown, so I feel like I'm saving $$. ;)

Vogue has some astonishing patterns out right now - I recently picked up this one, this one and this one. I'm going to try to do the last one in this fabric for New Years - which I got on sale at fabric.com for $2.50/yard.

ROCK. :)

I am lusting after that last dress. I can't WAIT to see you in it! And when I got those books, I actually thought of you-- you and my friend Artemisia. You guys'd LOVE these books.

I've sorta been lusting after this for my booth:

I'll be sure to post photos when I get it done - Vogue sizing seems to be a bit off from other pattern companies, so I'm going to have to do a bit of fitting. According to the charts, I should be in a 14 - but the toile I cut out was WAY too big. So I'm going to try the 12 tonight - but I have a feeling that's going to be too big as well. Which means I can either try to exchange the pattern (I trace onto muslin before cutting the paper pattern for just this reason!) or try to exchange it down to the next size set. Bleah.

It was deceitful. It was evasive. It was untruthful. It was shifty and deliberately concealing. It was misleading. I was misled.
