Contador is innocent. Even the person who wrote the report with his initials in the margin said that was a mistake. Saying he's out because he just doesn't have his head in the game is ridiculous.

Tour de France winner ruled out of world championships
9 hours ago

MADRID (AFP) — Tour de France winner Alberto Contador will not be considered for the Spanish team that is hoping to claim the coveted rainbow jersey at the upcoming world road race championships in Stuttgart, Germany.

Spanish team coach Paco Antequera said in an interview with regional newspaper La Verdad de Murcia that the circumstances of Contador, previously linked to a Spanish doping scandal dubbed 'Operation Puerto', have ruled him out of the selection process.

"I can say for definite no, because that's what I've decided. His (Contador) head is elsewhere at the moment and he isn't ready to come back to racing. First he has to concentrate on finding himself a team."

Contador is looking for a new team since a decision by the Discovery Channel team to disband following their failure to find a new sponsor.

At the world championships last year Paolo Bettini claimed the coveted world road race crown ahead of German Erik Zabel, with Spaniard Alejandro Valverde finishing third.

Valverde's participation at the world championships is currently up in the air because of suspicions over his alleged links to Operation Puerto.

The International Cycling Union (UCI) recently said that ongoing suspicions on Valverde meant he would not be allowed to attend the championships.

On Thursday, the Spanish cycling federation refused a UCI request to open an investigation into Valverde, and said they would defy a UCI request asking them not to select the Caisse d'Epargne rider for the September 25-30 event.
