AUGH!

So I slept too much yesterday, and consequently slept pretty scantily last night. Ergo, I was already awake when Craig called me at 6.45 am to tell me I had to drive to Manheim to get a permit number.

Please tell me you're joking?

It seems that when you build over a certain size-- and my platform is 1,400-square-freakin'-feet-- you need a permit from Rapho Township. Carrie, who's never been down this road before, didn't know that. Craig didn't know that. I sure as hell didn't know that. So we have no permit. So I can't give the number for the permit I don't have to the nice inspector from Commonweath Inspections so he can inspect the foundation holes which we've spent two weekends digging.

On top of this, of course, because there's always more, my niece is in the hospital yet again, which meant I was supposed to go to my sister and brother-in-law's house to walk their dog while they stayed with her at CHOP. She's FOUR. Can't she catch a break? Poor little thing. It seems, however, my brother-in-law stayed over at the house last night, and I'm off the hook for that. One down.

But now I'm waiting for the manager of Rapho Township to call me back, so I can find out if I do, actually, have to drive out to Manheim, show them these approved plans, get my permit number, and drive home. And G-d help me, of course, if there's a fee to apply for the permit, as I'm utterly wiped at the moment, having spent $8k LAST week on the lumber, plus the surprise $300 for the excavator. Best of all? I'm wide awake right now-- thanks, Captain Angst!-- but if I have to drive out to Manheim and back on three hours of sleep, it's gonna be uuuuugly.

Jesus. Whose stupid idea was all this again?!

Oh, wait....

I found this - "Under the new regulations, you will need to get a Building Permit application from the Township. You will then be required to select an inspection company from a list of Township approved companies. If your project is required to submit plans, (such as a new house or an addition), these plans will have to be approved by the inspection company prior to issuance of a Building Permit by the Township. The Township building permit fee is $2 per $1,000 cost of construction plus an additional $4 state fee."

But If this is just going to be a "deck" - installation of an uncovered deck no more than 30 inches above grade are all additional areas of exclusion.

Good Luck!

The difficulty with this

The difficulty with Rhoda's findings is when Nikki goes to build her shoppe on top of the deck, they'll want to see the inspection records. I'm lucky and have a laminated copy of mine in my truck at all times so if I ever get to build my building, it will be easy. She could skate by this season, but next year, it will be doubly bad.

Oh, I'm doing everything as if I were building the damned thing now. Scott's little building will go up this season. Mine...who the hell knows. Sound familiar, Jay? Sigh.

Carrie's apologised profusely. She had no idea we needed another permit. I'm only the second person to build a booth on her watch.

Ah, but two things:

A. It's not going to STAY a deck. There's a small building on one side, and the other side will one day have a two-story structure. So it has to be built with that in mind.

B. We DID get a permit from the Township. MANHEIM Township. Where the hell RAPHO township came into this, I have NOO idea. Unless I'm actually from Jupiter, and there IS no Manheim Township. Or something.

Whimper.
