More housing.
Apr. 11th, 2007 04:38 amSo today, I took Mom and Aunt Grace on an outing to see another prospective Tangentland. This one is in Roxborough, a few blocks from where I used to live. It's on Jamestown Street, right behind the hospital, one door off Henry Avenue. In other words, it's not too far from anything, and I can probably get sushi delivered there.
It's a little place: two storeys, but with a full basement where I could actually STORE things, though a dehumidifier is needed. It's got a small backyard with real GRASS. Woot! It's got two bedrooms and a sort of den-ish thing between them. Almost no closet space, but a big landing outside the back bedroom where, as Mom pointed out, an armoire could go. And lovely afternoon light.
What makes it special, though, is that the century-old details of the house are preserved. The original hardwood, the tiles and second door in the tiny foyer, the lamp wired into the newel post. The main bedroom has original wood double doors with big frosted-glass windows in them. The hanging lamp on the landing. It screams character, and it's lovely. It IS small, but I could make it work. And I'd actually enjoy living there.
