Stuff I thought I was getting over, I find I'm still angry and hurt about. Sigh.
So. The lecture went well. It would have gone better if we'd actually been able to get the big-screen TV to play my PowerPoint presentation, but it went well. We started late, and with the chatting we threw in, it ran about an hour and a quarter, perhaps an hour and a half. I think I need to make it snappier, and probably shorter. But it was a lot of fun. Much like my Bat Mizvah, though, I find I'm better just going off the cuff and not trying to find my place in my notes. (I memorised my entire Haftorah portion. No joke. I only screwed up when I realised I was singing from memory, and tried to find my place in the archaic Hebrew script. Ooops.)
As much as I've seen in this world, I find there are still kinds of people I haven't come across before. Your mind hasn't truly been folded into origami toadstools til a fairly butch guy grumbles about his uterus. I have to say, though, that I find it pretty sad that some people still have to worry about being "outed," and know that if they are, they may well lose their jobs, their homes, their families, and their lives. I worried a few times about saying the wrong thing and unknowingly kicking someone in a sore spot, but I think I navigated well.
The books I brought went over well, as did the gorgeous 102-year-old short Edwardian ribbon corset I just bought last week. There was much eating and joking, both before and after the lecture, and I enjoyed myself immensely.
But I'm tired-- I got perhaps three or four hours of sleep-- and I miss my dog. My cousin's dogs are great, and Dakota, the husky, talks almost as much as I do. Abby is a big, liquid-eyed, love-sponge of a mutt. Still, I miss my Clue. Depending on how travel goes tomorrow, I may just have to hop into the car and drive up to Doylestown to get her, rather than waiting until she's delivered Tuesday morning.
Mmm. Bed.
