Raw night.

Next time there's a time change, could someone let me know? I totally didn't get the memo this time. Thank G-d for my cable box and, of course, my Macs.

Tonight was, for quite a while, filled with seething, pulsing rage at the literally dozens of cars full of people out on 84th street, drag racing. Before I moved here, I never knew how loud a car could be. Now I'm reminded for sometimes hours at a stretch. My fabulous neighbours Matt and Emily moved back to Connecticut yesterday, in a large part because of the noise. Tonight, I even saw one of the bastards come onto property to empty his bladder against a wall. There was a letter from an anonymous neighbour on my door yesterday, exhorting everyone to call the police, call the precinct captain, call the local councilwoman. Perhaps knowing I'm not alone in my rage made me even angrier tonight. I called 911 a couple of times, as the beer cans went flying and the car stereos got louder. Eventually I called the 12th precinct and had a nice chat with an officer who admitted that they have three drag racing hotspots they can't shut down-- they just don't have enough officers.

But at the other edge of the spectrum, Emily's corset is approaching the finish line. I've never used embroidered silk before, and when I turned the pieces this time, I had to sigh in sheer joy: this may be one of the prettiest corsets I've yet made. I'm going to have to find some more fabric like this to work with for the summer. The pattern on the cloth came together beautifully, and I can't wait to try it on Em tomorrow. When I see it with the skirt, I may cry. Or squeal. Or both.

It's 5am, and finally quiet outside. My sheets are clean, the animals somnolent, and nightbirds in the trees.

Time to sleep.
