Swoon!

The yards and yards of purple silk velvet are cut. They're like liquid-- so very light and flowing. I cut on my bed, which made life easier in a number of ways, including being able to play with the warp and weft to make sure everything was as on-the-grain as possible. I would be ecstatic, were I not exhausted. The only thing left to cut now is the inner sleeves of chiffon.

Must sleep. Then:

Get license photo.
Get serger thread.
Get more needles-- I broke SEVEN IN A ROW putting in ONE sleeve. Damned pearls.

I should try to get to the Apple store to return the earphones and transmitter that just don't work, but I can't see how I'm going to fit it in this weekend. Sunday morning, I have to take Mollie-- my parents' collie-- to the kennel, and then I'd LOVE to be able to get a fitting in in the afternoon, but now I'm not sure I'll have the time. Gah. Jen-- can we play it by ear?

And I figure out-- I hope-- my last issue: sew a line of thin silver ribbon to the top of the overdress for stability, then sew the silver trim to that, rather than sew the ribbon to the trim, then sew the both of them to the velvet. If I did it the latter way, I'd never be abble to center and match the trim perfectly, and it'd drive me NUTS the rest of my life. Seriously,

So my 'net access is haphazard, at best. Sometimes I'm on for hours, sometimes ten minutes, sometimes 30 seconds before the connection goes out again. Verizon DSL checked the line, and apparently, I'm getting exactly EIGHT PERCENT of my signal. Not eighty, not eighteen-- eight. I rarely use my landline-- that phone's actually been unplugged for a couple of weeks. When the DSL tech had me plug it in, sure enough, full of static. Verizon analog repair can get someone out here between 8am and 6pm. Isn't that convenient? "I'm sorry-- I work. I can't be here then. Isn't there some time in the evening?" "No. I don't know what to tell you." Thanks.

The next weekend I have off is June 4th. So apparently, this is what I'll be doing. Waiting for Verizon. Woo. They did suggest I have the landlord check the interface box, but when I called the Korman office, they sighed and said, "The box isn't on our property. We tell them this all the time." So back to Verizon analog repair, who says they'll send a tech out to the box, but they can't get anyone there til Tuesday. So one way or the other, unless this problem clears up on its own-- which it might-- I'm iffy with online for a while.

Wonderful.

The back of the gown is together-- the deep purple silk velvet.

Oh, my G-d. It's...I want to drool over it. The way it falls, and the way it drapes is just...not to be believed.

I understand now why Ngila Dickson had the original edges zig-zagged and not turned. To preserve the glorious flow, I may have to do exactly the same. I think even serging a rolled hem might be too heavy.

I'm utterly lost in velvet lust. I'm sure putting the rest of it together will snap me out of it, but for now, oh, G-d. Shivery wootness!
