My laptop is very ill. It got slower and slower to respnd to commands, and now it won't even start up. Just the grey opening screen and a whirling design. I put in the OSX disc, and it welcomed me to the installer, and now it's doing nothing. Not responding to the cursor at all.

Help? Anyone?

You should get a Mac. I hear from Mac users that they never ever give anyone problems.

;)

They give me less problems than PCs do and that's good enough for me.

Have you tried connecting them via a Japanese camera? That might help, or so commercials have led me to believe.

Are you looking for a mac iBook or any mac? I got a fantastic iMac on eBay shipped for $120. I LOVE it!

If you're looking for a lap top, I'll have my hubby comment in your journal, he's the mac man, me, I'm learning to love my first iMac. :) I'm actually starting to use it more than my PC.

I know that he's been looking into one of the new power books in the refirb. part of the apple store online.

There are a lot of good factory refirbished machines on there that are reasonable and are still covered with a warranty.

Not necessarily, but it could be that the hard drive is on its way out, in which case the more its on the further down the spiral it goes. In this case, turn it off and plan for when you put it on again, when you have the disk transfer utilities boot-up CD ready and a waiting hard drive ready to accept data (ipod or something).

It sounds crazy, but just letting a hard drive chill for an hour is sometimes enough to get the machine on again and run a fresh install or something.

At any rate, I would give the hard drive a fresh install all the way through once you get your stuff off of it.

My 'not necessarily' is in response to the voices in my head, not comments above.

I ran Hardware Test, and it came out fine. So I have NO idea what's wrong.

My iMac had a bad motherboard... did all sorts of wonky things about three or four months after I got it. Had to get it replaced, which was a hassle and a half, but everything's been ok since.

Any chance there's a warranty, or is this the second-hand 'puter?
