Deep breath.

Anyone here ever applied for a grant? Anyone know much about the process?

A grant..as in educational grants? Or..like for a business?

The former I've done. The latter I have been told is painful, tedious, and time consuming.

Yeah, that's exactly what I've heard. I know a grant-writer for the arts-- she was a customer of mine at the store. Of course now I need her advice, I don't even remember her name....

Person to talk to is [livejournal.com profile] sfw_dc. She's on vacation right now but will be back next week, I believe.

What kind of grants does she write? Though I'll take all advice at this point.

far as I know, they're educational and cultural grants.

I'm a grant writer for my Kid's elementary school...

How tortuous is it?

Hugs!

I've written a goodly number of grants in my time.

Yours are all for the sciences, though, yes?

[identity profile] maskm.livejournal.com 2006-03-29 12:40 am (UTC)(link)

Yup.

But there's a reason they're all called grants. Similar in some ways.

If you want me to read any of your grants I can promise only one thing, and it's something you may have a hard time finding elsewhere: I will be brutally fucking honest.

We're in the process of applying for our first three grants. Much jumping through hoops! Your best bet is to find someone who has applied successfully for the type of grant you are looking for and take a look at the work that has been done. Send Di an email about this and she can point you towards many of the online resources necessary for this process.

I've found a lot of them-- I just stare at them in terror, though. I'll write.
