Bitch at the passport window told me I'd have my passport within two weeks. She even gave me a stamped paper that said so.

She never said, "...IF you use Express Mail." They don't even have my application yet.

I should still have it in time. But what a fucking waste. I fucking KNEW something would happen with my passport.

I know-- I went to the website, then called the central office. They're the ones who have to get it now.

Grrrrrr.

That's an excellent point! (See my earlier post on the subject.) (http://ysobelle.livejournal.com/180603.html?thread=1015931#t1015931))

Passports tend to take longer nowadays, since most since 2005 have electronic tags embedded in them. If you don't have yours in hand by (let's see, the 29th, minus 14), uh, April 15th - oops, Saturday - by the 14th, then - go over there with your license, affidavits, birth certificate, or whatever they require now, right in your hot little hands; and slap them down on the desk, and demand a passport immediately.

(No, that never works with civil servants of that ilk; just be pleasant and matter-of-fact, but slightly insistent. If you're lucky, it'll be a guy, and you can use the ol' eyelash-batting trick!)

It was stunning that the delay with my passport cost me "only" $300 - I lucked onto a special price on summer tickets, and they didn't charge me the $200 change fee.

That said, I have a good feeling about this, and I'm sure it'll be fine. I mean, you live in a big city with a Passport Agency, instead of thousands of miles from the nearest one and having to do everything by telephone and FedEx. Supposedly, in person at an actual Agency, if everything's in order, one can get one-business-day service (which means three days, of course). So not to worry, kiddo - we're definitely going!!
