Clarity.

I should clarify a bit. My supervisor and the COO have been pretty cool. They moved six people to get this configuration, where I'm as far from the petty cows as possible. And while it was never stated this was for me, it sort of is. So really, they do like me. I get on with them well. Also, I've been bad with the late thing. Getting written up was just...well. And it's true-- if I take off for my trip as planned, when I come back in May, I'll only have six days off for the rest of the year.

No, I don't want to stay here the rest of my life. Everyone knows what I want to go do. But for now, it's stable, it's money, and if I want a little shop somewhere someday, I need savings and decent credit. Which is what this place gives me.

Sigh.

Maybe I'll leave on a Saturday and come back the following Sunday. If I get home early enough to sleep, I can...gah. I don't know.

suggestion - leave May 20th (or do an over night flight on the 19th). fly back May 28th. The 29th is Memorial day, so you can sleep in. That is unless Endless is happening that weekend and you *have* to be there.

Endless is no more unfortunately. This sounds like a good plan. Do it, it will be good for you!

If you get holiday time hinge it around Memorial Day so you can squeeze some holiday time into the mix as well.

Honestly, I was ready to scoff at the cost of going to Britain at the beginning of high season, but I was quite surprised that the typical PHL - LHR Flight 67 / Flight 69 on British Air, even on the weekends of May 20-28, is still only about US$655! That's fairly good for returning on a holiday weekend. Problem is, you wouldn't be in London on your birthday, which seemed to be an important consideration.

And yes, I'd wait to visit Scotland on your NEXT trip... You KNOW you're going back!! After I started going transatlantic, I visited the U.K. at least once a year for six years straight. You'll get hooked, and with those progressive frequent flyer mile bonuses, they'll reel you in. (Except Continental/Virgin - their miles never expire.)

One never has time to do everything one wants - even the things one regarded from afar as "absolutely essential must-do's". Heck, much to the consternation of my Japanese professor (educated in Kyoto), I never even left Tokyo the first three times I was in Japan. One simply has to prioritize. Personally, I think it's better to get to know one place a little bit better, than to do what some people do in Europe (and now more often in Asia) - the "If it's Tuesday, we must be in Belgium" syndrome!

Don't be concerned about going "only" to London! Just go! As Samuel Johnson famously said, "If a man is bored with London, then he is bored with life."
