One of my coworkers calls over to me about a registration I did a few days ago. "This guy's got some crazy-ass last name. I don't know how to say it." I'm expecting one of our Asian or Indian customers.

The man's name is McAuliffe.



Yes, yes. I'm a snob. But Jesus!


I hate this place. I just have to keep repeating, "401k, 401k. Health insurance. Paid vacation. 401k."


Someone tell me something amusing! Bring to me news of the world outside!


ETA: Amusingly, just as I was hitting, "Update," a friend and coworker comes over-- and we proceed to have a conversation wherein I say pretty much everything I just posted. And she agrees with every word. There are a few people here I do love; she's one of them. Ironically, she's the one who got me the job here.

And yes, she apologised.

Can you say, "Hooked on Phonics"? Sheesh, how hard could it be?? There are no silent letters, non-standard pronunciations, or anything like that in "McAuliffe" - and it is a name everyone has heard since 1986. Quel imbécile!

Line six - Wait a minute now! You update your LiveJournal at work?!? Gasp!

But seriously, if you have a general lack of breathing-down-your-neck, peering-over-your-shoulder supervisors, and the time to do it... forgive me if I may be so bold, but I daresay it's possible that less desirable jobs could exist. I used to wash dishes on a 4:30 AM to 4 PM shift. Four months of that, and I got promoted to the 7 AM to 6 PM shift. I loved being able to "sleep in" until 6 AM!
