As I've been moaning for months now, I've been watching almost nothing but HGTV. Hours of it. And while it's on the whole had a beneficial effect on the things I have, it's been a bit frustrating. Granted, I cleaned a little last night, and in a fit of inspiration, yanked out an old and useless plastic storage set and threw it into the kitchen, thus decluttering my counters at last. But it's not enough. Christmas was low-key for me-- a pair of lovely garnet earrings, two sets of sheets, and-- well, this rocks-- a ticket to this:

Sovereign Bank World Pop Mix
The Black Watch
The Pipes, Drums and Highland Dancer of the 1st Battalion and the Band of the Welsh Guards
Sunday, January 15
3pm | Verizon Hall

Scotland's Black Watch joins with the Welsh Guards for an evening of music and pageantry. Featuring 90 performers, the show includes bagpipes, traditional military marches, drum solos and Celtic dancing. Enjoy Highland Flings, as well as Scotish and Irish favorites such as "The Blue Bells of Scotland," "Cutty Sark Jig" and "Dear Old Donnegal."

Yay. But what I need it an overhaul of my space, and Mom has tentatively agreed to go furniture-looking with me. And the best thing? I've finally narrowed down over the last few months what I want as a style.

I may not ever get it, but I have an idea now of what'd be ideal for me: I'm absolutely in love with the Art Nouveau style-- have been for years. But I also love an even more literally organic look. And cheesy as it sounds, what I keep coming back to is the look Alan Lee and John Howe created for Rivendell. Yeah. I wanna live in an Elf House. Seriously. I adore the curving lines and stonework, and the vines and greenery. Now, as I have no ins with WETA Workshop, I have no idea how I'm actually going to get to this point, but it's definitely something to start seriously working towards.

Time to hit my Louis Majorelle books again.

Investigate whom, my love? Or what? The Guards or Art Nouveau or Rivendell or Alan Lee and John Howe?

I'm not so big on the heavy parts of it, nor the more Arts and Crafts end (more straight lines), which is what Art Nouveau led into. I'm more on the whiplike recurves and glorious naturalism of it. Like how a dragonfly can be high art. My ultimate dream is an Art Nouveau canopy bed. Never been able to find anything I liked, though. Which is sort of beside the point, as I'd never be able to aford it, anyway.

Remember the way Rivendell looked, and the bedchamber in which Frodo woke up? That's what I'd love. LOVE.

Idle thought:

Make some sort of stencils based on the patterns you want.

Buy a sheet of that blue or pink insulation foam from Lowe's or Home Depot.

Get your hands on a dremel.

Carve away.

Paint afterwards (I'm not sure about this stage but I know it's possible).

It would at least work for borders and trims..

I want Rivendell as well. If we ever win the lottery, I am getting it!

First of all, I totally want to live in an elf house ^_^ I've been toying with designs for a house for me for eventually, and I, too, keep coming back to this.

Also. Gah! Enjoy the pipes for me, too? Lucky ^_^ Someone must really, really love you. *hugs* glad to hear nothing horrible happened over the holiday!
