From the Washington Post:

"The central new development is the decomposition of the president's support in Congress," said Ross K. Baker, a Rutgers University congressional expert. "I think there is a very acute realization on the part of Republicans that they no longer can hitch their careers to his popularity. That, combined with the new aggressiveness by the Democrats, means you're seeing basically a Bush agenda that is largely being derailed."

And that's great. Really. I'm glad some Republicans have finally come to realise that perhaps mindlessly baying support of the President and marching in lockstep with his idiocy isn't the best way to serve the country or, ultimately, their party. But for G-d's sake, what's it going to take to light a fire under my own party's collective ass, and get some results? Sometimes I feel like the GOP is following the President, but the Dems are following the media.

Christ, that was throwing spitballs compared to the howitzers that get launched these days. Remember-- if you speak out against the President's policies, you're a coward and a traitor. Those aren't terms to take lightly.
