I'm tired. Working on a corset that is just one struggle after another. Desperate for thread, I begged my Mom to pick some up for me yesterday. Accordingly, I dropped off a piece of the lining at the house on the way in to work. She lost it. Never mind that I begged for a scrap of the fabric from Jay to do the lining, and the only other piece I had was stained and unusable. Never mind that Mom didn't actually go anywhere, so we know it's in the house somewhere. It's gone. Now, this is on top of my carefully laying out the outer fabric whilst on the phone flirting last week, and discovering after the fact that I'd cut it BACKWARDS. And this is also on top of the fact that the damned thing is TEN MONTHS LATE-- though that's partly the client's fault. This corset has just been one thing after another. But it's almost done now, and by G-d, it goes this week. I want it off my neck. I've explained to the customer, and she's been understanding.

We're almost certain now that Simon has lost my boots, and simply doesn't have the spine to tell me. I'm incredibly disappointed, and also furious. Six months, and I've called over a dozen times, and faxed four times. Next, unfortunately, has to be attempting resolution through the Better Business Bureau. No, the parallels aren't lost on me, but I've at least spoken to my customer and apologised. In my own case, nothing. I spoke with one person there, once, and she swore Simon would get right back to me, and was trying to get hold of me. I'm very angry. Those were expensive boots, and I loved them very, very much.

Anyone in or near Savannah wanna pay a housecall for me?

Dinner at the Union League last night. The food was nice, but being around my parents' lovely friends and my own lovely niece was even better. One lesson for me? If you haven't worn heels in a very long time, buying 4" heels at lunch and wearing them to walk across Center City is generally a Very Bad Idea.

Oh, indeed they are. The Pointy Boots of No Forgiveness. I'm furious.

Oh! For some reason I thought those were stolen out of your car with the other garb! Hey... at least you have SOME idea where they are....

Hope you see them again soon. ;)

BTW - 4" heels across Center City? Darling. Really. Even if you LIVE in 4" heels that's a bad idea. How are your poor feet today?

I switched to my comfy kickarounds right after dinner. I thought about walking the four blocks to my car and just said, "Oh, no. Not even." And changed. Thank G-d I wasn't stupid and vain and hadn't left the comfy shoes at work like I briefly pondered doing.

And when are you coming up?!

ha ha ha ha --- laughing 'cause I'm picturing the 4" heels in center city. Been there, done that. (OK, 3" heels) Not fun at all is right! (We'll have to talk about the UL when we next get together!)

Sorry 'bout your boots. Do you know Sally - Tarot card reader from Faire? She lives in Savannnah & is down there now. Maybe she'll visit him.

And I can relate about the corset being late -- we were several weeks late in getting wedding proofs to the bride & groom. Thank goodness they were understanding as well. Hang in there & it will be out of your way before you know it.

If ANYONE is willing to go visit Simon, I'm all over it!

Oh-- I got an email from faire today. Apparently, I get two free tickets to Dickens. Gah. I don't suppose you know anyone who'd like to buy mine?

I'm sure the corset looks amazing as always.
I was sewing a white fur cloak this weekend
and accidentally added like 4 inces to it and had to
scramble to figure our how to fix it.
I do so much better when I cut out the pieces and abandon
the directions following directions=disaster

SNARF! That's why I hardly ever do it any more. I make them up as I go along! How did the cloak end up? Will it be ready for Narnia?

Argh! I'm so sorry that you're dealing with this with your beloved boots. It kinda makes me wary about buying anything from that company, unless I can try it on at the booth and take it home with me that day. Which is a shame, because that's the company I was planning on buying MY boots from in the spring.

As for the corset - it happens to the best of us, and there isn't much that can be done about it. Some projects just seem to be cursed. I'm sure it will be lovely, and the client will be very appreciative of your work. :)

Yeah-- buy from them, but don't order from them. It took me two years to get them from Simon in the first place.

After this corset, I won't be caught up, but I'll be...er...less severely behind. Better than nothing, right?

I've been looking for another excuse to go to Florida and/or Georgia for some time now. I live in rural, remote northern New Mexico, and it's a long way...

(Sure, I was in Florida in 2005 already: for Lisa's funeral, for the New College alumi/ae reunion party, for New College's incredible graduation party (where I was the last man standing at 11 AM!), for my high school's reunion, for my friend John's birthday, and for New College's incredible Halloween party....)

But I wouldn't mind going back!

Of course, I'm kidding. I won't be back in the South until January 31st, but I'll be glad to break his legs then. And I'm kidding!!
