Monday, Monday....
Sep. 12th, 2005 11:08 amIt's so impossibly hard to come back here Monday mornings.
It was another good weekend, but I swear to G-d, I'm going to start wearing a pin that says, "Hi! It's so good to see you! I can't remember your name!" I have people who've been coming into my shop for years now, and I know I've met them before, but I cannot remember who they are. Or sometimes, I know everything about them except their names. Or I will-- on rare occasions-- remember their names, but not the weird things that happened in seasons past. I had a woman come in yesterday, and I remember outfitting her three years ago: she wanted to be an assassin, so we put her in a frock over tights. She looks smashing, and she's still wearing that outfit. She just got married, and her husband's quite cute. Do I remember her name? Sigh.
Yes, there was some to-do this weekend, but the Drama Llama seems to have cantered past for the most part. There WILL be more, I assume, with the snark from That Other Clothier, but I'm hoping once the owner finds out what's been going on, things will resolve.
Mark stopped by, and I chatted with him about the Funky Formal. Fay and Eric were both supposed to ask him to call his contact at the Eden to see if we even have time, still, to get in on the night of. If we don't, this is all academic, and there may not be a Funky Formal this year. If we can get it, Oh-G-d-What-Have-I-Done will commence for me. I will spend the next two months even MORE crazy than I am, and will probably have to be kept scrupulously away from sharp objects on that night. Much like last year.
So it seems
caitriona27 is going to buy the last corset from the Feisty Diva photo shoot. I took measurements from another participant for a five-lacing. And a soon-to-be Wench came in, talked with Emily and me about our corsets, left for a while, then came back and put a downpayment in for a three-lacing.
(Apropos of nothing-- just cos it's on my iPod-- have you ever actually sung Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana"? Listening to "O Fortuna" is one thing, but putting your head back and ripping it out of your throat with a 200-voice choir behind you and a full orchestra in front of you is about as close to a full-psyche orgasm as you can get.)
So that's one, possibly three corsets this weekend. I just can't get over it. I'm averaging one, maybe two a weekend. I thought I'd be lucky to get one or two a month. Actually, I thought I'd be lucky to get ANY this season. I'm thrilled, and grateful. And terrified, but not in too bad of a way. I've also decided to start making them in poplin again, as the silk is just not holding up well to hard wear. Duh. Getting Trigger by the bolt will also make my life much simpler, and I'll be less nervous about what happens to them when they leave. I know they're good, but I hatehatehate having them come back looking sad. Silk is great for clubwear and for those with a lot of choices in the costume closet, but for those of us who need workhorse corsets, I think I may have to switch to twill, poplin, whatever.
It's constant evolution, I guess. Unless you're from Kansas, of course.

In which case, it's intelligent design.
But yes, we know you better than that. *hides under table* *giggle*

Not this weekend, sweets... THIS is the weekend that I'm going thrifting with Rick and Beth, remember? The NEXT weekend after that - the 23rd. It's in my calendar. Whee! (So yes, you have two weeks, not one more, to finish the pretty green/brown thing. ;)

Date: 2005-09-12 03:43 pm (UTC)"have you ever actually sung Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana"?" - Yes. As a matter of fact I have.. Specifically the Ozawa version which if you ask me is the ONLY one worth listening too. I'm not that happy though that so many companies have used O Fortuna in their commercials...
"but for those of us who need workhorse corsets, I think I may have to switch to twill, poplin, whatever."
I love my silks - but you are very right.. my silk overskirt is looking very sad.. Can we hit Fabric Row on a Saturday after season?? I need more green silk to make another over skirt for next year...
Ahh - the Drahma Llama - has totally left me alone..
And as for this other clothier - I wanted to talk to you about that yesterday.. I've heard things too and I have much gossip to share... No drama, just gossip.
Oh and the Rogues pin, was Bill's (Regal Pewter) I got back to the shop, mentioned it and he said Hey that's me. So that's why I recognized the number..

Date: 2005-09-13 04:23 pm (UTC)I feel terrible when people come up to the booth and I recognize their face, but can't place where/how/why I know them!
