I'm watching aid workers in New Orleans, and trucks rolling in, and I almost want to cry in relief. But I have to say, when watching them come in this afternoon, my first thought was, "It's fucking FRIDAY! Where the fuck have you BEEN?"
...they were sitting with their collective thumbs up their butts waiting to be told what to do until someone realized, "Oh, SHIT, there are bloggers out there telling everyone we've got our thumbs up our butts - and oh, CRAP, here comes the President's publicity shot...look busy, quick!"
Many thanks, by the way, for the link to Interdictor's LJ.
Oh, and Madison Repertory Theatre will be taking collections every night of the run of "Rembrandt's Gift" which opens next Friday, which will go to Second Harvest for food to be sent to refugees.
Yes, I keep reading/hearing that the resources are sitting there waiting for someone official to request them. The most remarkable instance: Chicago's mayor, saying he had trucks and people ready to go whenever they're called.
I'm thinking "Man, just get them on the road, for crying out loud - they'll figure out where *exactly* to go when they get there!"
This is not the time for forms in triplicate. *sigh*
