Live this morning.

ysobelleAs I won't be here this evening, I managed to catch live coverage this morning. A solid, very fast flat stage into Germany, led for quite some time by a German rider from Gerolsteiner. But he was caught in the end, of course, and the field came as one down to the end.
There was, once again, a crash at the end. This is beginning to become depressingly commonplace. Fortunately, it was enough behind the madly-dashing sprinters that the field was wide enough to avoid another massive pile-up: only two riders went down. Another crash earlier in the day over wet light rail tracks took down a good chunk of the field, though no one seriously. The big sprinters were all there to go madly for the line, and Robbie McEwen tipped Tom Boonen just at the end.
It was the perfect excuse to get a tight close-up of Tom's green-clad rear-- and the enormous, bloody scrape covering his hip. Cringe.
So no change in the General Classification standings today. Lance gets another yellow jersey, taking him closer to the career total of Bernard Hinault, another legend of the sport. Tomorrow, though, everything could get shaken up. The Tour leaves Germany to head back into France, into the hills. Sunday, then, is a mountain stage, with even more possibility of change. There won't be another sprint finish for a while, so we won't see another mad dash for the line for a bit. And, of course, this would be the weekend I'm out of town and away from OLN. Sigh. I'll catch what I can, of course.
I may have some folks over on the 24th for the end of the Tour-- if anyone but me is as mad for this race as I am.
