I am feeling both violent and numb.

I finally called Hickory myself last night to ask where Marble's damned test results were. I got someone with a brain, and she promised to call me back in an hour. Within 45 minutes, she had them. I had her send them to Dr. Radbill, though his office was already closed.

I called Radbill Animal this morning, to ask that they confirm receipt. They did. Dr. Radbill was away for the weekend, but he calls to check in, they said. And he did indeed call me from the shore later this morning.

He sees no sign of cancer. This doesn't entirely rule it out, as needle aspirations are fallible. But he didn't see it. However, neither did he see anything else that would explain what's going on. This leaves our only option as surgery. He says she's doing well, all things considered, and could probably tolerate it well.

He thought it would run me at least $600. That I could have handled. I called Hickory, and they said they'd have a surgeon call me to discuss. He did. They would open her up, biopsy her liver and intestines, check her gall bladder, and possibly remove it.

$2200 to $3500.

I have bad credit. I can't get CareCredit-- I tried, they turned me down instantly. If you have a vet who takes payments, let me know.

And because I'm right at my threshold right now, the one thing I can focus on is that my sister Facebooked earlier today that she's going to dinner tonight to celebrate her son's birthday "with the family." I guess my invitation got lost in the mail. It's irrational. But right now, that's what I am.

So much rage. Rage, and fear.

The vet I took the cats too in Roxborough was always reasonably affordable. I don't know if they do payment plans or anything, but their prices will definitely be lower. I think it was Wissahickon Creek Vetinary or something like that.

Oh darlin. That larger quote sounds about what it would be here, but I have to say, it really sounds like those surgeons know what they're doing - all the biopsies & everything.

OH!!! University of Pennsylvania!!! there's a Vet school there, we actually sent one of our patients there for something completely unrelated, but! It's a teaching hospital. That means the cost is low (students perform the procedures) but the care is top notch! I bet they're affordable! I would definitely call them, see if they're willing to do the procedure. Bastet bless.

VHUP is the best there is, but it's unbelievably expensive. Everything related to Penn is. But I'm going to call again Monday-- they were closed today.

When my beloved collie Kayli died-- the one in my avatar-- it was at VHUP. They did everything they could, though, and I was thankful for that.

huh. I was under the impression that (as a teaching hospital) they'd be less expensive. I know VA Tech is, and as we sent one of our patients there (for trepannation and cauterization to stop nose bleeds whose cause we simply couldn't determine) I guess that's where I got that impression. Well foo.

Is Wilmington too far?

My friend is a Vet... she's currently in Israel - but she'll be back next week... If you can wait - I'll ask if she's able to do something...

*hugs*

When I first saw this post, I didn't know what to say. I wanted to say something to make you feel better, but words failed me. The local vet is a sweetie who keeps trying to help people in these tough times. I'm so grateful to him, but I wonder how he keeps doing it.

I've been in tough financial situations with a sick animal to care for, and it's so tough. You are so brave and honest that it breaks my heart. I will pray and send good thoughts your way. Would you like to post some pics of Marble?

I had a collie when I was little. His name was Shag. This was a long time before the Austin Powers movies!
