I had someone try to "out-tired" me at the store today. I've had ONE day off this week since faire ended Sunday, and I spent it ferrying my family around the city. (Monday was cleaning up and breaking down the booth.)

The acting assistant manager likes to put two people on at mid-shift. In a very small store, when it's not all that busy. There were four or five of us there today. The store's the size of my living room. It'll double in size after the 21st, but for now? Five? Seriously?

So I got to come home early this afternoon. Huzzah! And I'm only working 9 to 12 tomorrow, and am off Sunday AND Monday now.

I bought a new CD the other day in the midst of an enormous fit of boredom. It's Crystal Visions: The Very Best of Stevie Nicks. There's an original version of "Silver Springs" on it, and as it unfolded, I had the distinct-- and distinctly odd-- feeling of being back in college, discovering "Rumours," the album from which it was cut, for the first time. It was lovely: much like finding that last present lost in the scree of wrapping paper at Christmas. Though, of course, this would have been a twenty-year-long Christmas. This particular version just fits so very well with the album as it was. She's included the story, though, of how Lindsey and Mick took her out back behind the studio to break it to her that Rumours was too long, and they had to cut the song. She said she'd just given the song to her mother as a present, and was devastated. She was angry with them for years about it. In the end, she says, it became a b-side and a cult hit, so it worked out well. Still...I can only imagine how much that must've hurt.

Ah, well. Enough melancholy. I have to figure out what I'm wearing tomorrow. I really only have the one costume. But I need to get out. I really, really do.
