I need. To get. THE FUCK. Out. Of here.
Sep. 24th, 2008 12:45 amCar came careening down the access road, took out one tree completely, left half its back axle in the middle of the street, and came to a broken halt on the sidewalk, pouring gasoline all down the gutter. By the time I got out there, the kids were running back to the car, frantically grabbing shit out of the glove compartment, and running again. Mmhm.
It took half an hour for the fire department to arrive to wash away the gas. In the midst of it all, one of the kids came back with a friend, and in the midst of everyone, insouciantly took the tags off the car and left again. Right. Cos there's no VIN on it or anything.
Sigh.
Well, eventually the police showed up. By then, the drive had come back again, moaning about how much it was going to cost to fix the car. I just had to laugh. "You can't fix that." He came up to me and, I kid you not, said, "Oh, I'd appreciate it if you didn't tell the cops about this." I looked him right in the eye and said, "What the hell were you thinking?" He gave me a song and dance about how he was coming off Hook Road, and tried to cut down the access road, and the car was hard to steer, etc. "How fast were you going?" "I wasn't goin' that fast!" I just gave him a look. So he took off. Cops showed. Accident investigator guy who'd been hanging about told them how he'd seen the driver pull a gun out of the car. If a brick wall had been more convenient, I would have started bashing my head against it. I knew it'd been something.
Sigh. I so need to move.
ETA: Well, I'm in it now. Filled out a statement, said yes, I could identify the guy. Which they appreciated, especially when I told them he'd told me he was driving.
Oh, and NOW there are police cars everywhere out there. Mmhm.
