Someone on the Wench board made a post about how absolutely wonderful it is that we finally have a black major-party candidate for President.

I posted this:

It IS great. It IS an incredible moment.

And I'd be ecstatic about it, except that the old guy who drives the van around my complex at night-- he's Korman's idea of "security"-- just told me that Barack Obama supports killing babies. Literally. Babies. That if something goes wrong with an abortion, the mother should still be allowed to kill her living baby. Barack Obama voted in support of this. And he was absolutely serious.

This is a guy who admitted he does none of his own research. He listens to the radio, and just believes whatever he hears. He doesn't read, he doesn't look things up. And no matter who you're going to vote for, doesn't your candidate deserve more than that?

Sigh. I'm sorry. We have such potential in American politics. And we so seldom reach it. We've made such a wonderful step today, but there's so much more that just isn't being done.

He is? When did I authorize this?

(I swear that was my first thought.)

You'd probably do a hell of a lot better a job running this place than they do.

Actually it was mine too. And I've already had this gag in my head.

Actually, another victim of spin. Here's the senator's own words in an interview in a christian magazine:

"There was a bill that came up in Illinois that was called the 'Born Alive' bill that purported to require life-saving treatment to such infants. And I did vote against that bill," Obama said Tuesday.

That is what the neo-cons have latched onto, But here's his statement as to why;

"The reason was that there was already a law in place in Illinois that said that you always have to supply life-saving treatment to any infant under any circumstances, and this bill actually was designed to overturn Roe v. Wade, so I didn't think it was going to pass constitutional muster."

Interesting how the whole story and his spin changes the statement but still the fact remains that he voted against the legislation and will take his knocks from folks on it.

Now you know why politics is considered a filthy business.....
