ysobelleI've just gotten back from seeing an absolutely delightful performance of As You Like It in Clark Park. I picnic'd with ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
snugglyevil, and we had sandwiches and nuts and potato chips and fruit and cookies. The performance was but an hour and a half long, but the cuts weren't obvious. It was so beautifully done! Light and rollicking and brisk. Just wonderful. I'm only sorry tonight was the last night, and I can't go again. Not only did my poor out-of-practise Shakespeare ear miss some of it, but some people near us had pizza, and I'm longing to try THAT with my Bard. I also loved that I'm an idiot: I said at some point this week that I'd never seen this particular play before. Ha. It was one of the first Shakespeare plays I ever saw: 1989, in Stratford-Upon-Avon, with the RSC. How much an idiot am I to forget THAT? I remember being rather proud of myself for being one of the few in my group who didn't snooze off, for all they sat us up in nosebleed.
trillian and kylecassidy showed up as well, and all hearty thanks to the former for tipping me off to the show in the first place. This was exactly what I needed.
I live in a pretty cool city, by heaven.
Trivia for the evening? "Whoever loved that loved not at first sight?" is often attributed to this play, but Shakespeare didn't actually write it. He lifted it, entire, from Christopher Marlowe.

Date: 2008-08-04 04:07 am (UTC)Mmmmmm, As You Like It. We had a Shakespeare in the Park here. I called it Shakespeare L-I-T-E because they made it... musical. As in, replacing dialogue with music. Obviously people loved it but it wasn't my cuppa tea; I saw All's Well That Ends Well and I just couldn't bring myself to go to another. (Although I heard extremely good reviews for the punk Macbeth.**)
