foxglove_8778 after her grandfather's funeral (which I barely made) at 2.45am. Resorted to slapping myself in the face to stay awake on the two-hour late-night drive. Fairie Fest itself was much fun, but I saw even less of it than I did last year, and financially, I am incredibly sad and horrified to say it was a disaster. I don't think I managed to break even. I have a few nibbles from people who were there and even got measured, but if they don't come in as solid orders, I'm going to have quiet hysterics in the corner.
How many times did I hear from a fellow vendor "Business is down so far I don't know what the hell I'm going to do," and telling him, "Buck up, little camper! It'll get better!"
Now it's my turn.
Gah.
Still, it's a wonderful, beautiful, outstandingly friendly show to do, and I'm not even considering dropping it. And I start Virginia in two weeks with far more stock than I'd've had if I'd blown out Fairie Fest. How's that for a silver lining, right? And the area out around Glen Rock is utterly breathtaking-- this and my Gettysburg trip make me happy to be a native Pennsylvanian. I really like my Commonwealth. Oh! And for the first time ever, thanks to Bev, I got to have Clue with me at a show! She was my Booth Bitch, and also my Booth Bait. By the time Sunday afternoon rolled around, I almost had the litany down: "No, she's not an Aussie. No, she's not a mutt. No, she's not a cross. She's a purebred Collie. She's a blue merle-- that's what the colour's called. No, she's not old, she just turned five. Yes, her right eye is one-third blue. Yes, she's very friendly. Yes, you absolutely may pet her, thank you for asking."
It's now 3.30am, and time to walk the Furry Princess and go to sleep.
