And more.

I've already been doing a lot of PCOS research, I should say, cos I pretty much came to this conclusion on my own quite some time ago. And while my first step will be to talk to a nutritionist and a gyn, I'm not entirely averse to giving my system some kind of sharp nudge back on track with some form of chemical impetus-- metformin or low-hormone birth control. I've spent a verrrry long time watching my moods carefully, and am not entirely anti-chemical there, as pretty much everyone knows. Lexapro is my hero. I'd like to look into something like Seasonale. I LIKE not having my period.

I'm actually pretty upbeat: treating this will help with my weight, and quite possibly my sleeping issues-- I hadn't known before that sleep apnea is one of the symptoms.

But then, of course, this gets into all those hidden fertility issues swirling in my head. And that's a whole other thing.

a quote from an article i read about the roaring debate over whether it's okay for women to elect to skip their periods:

"Having your period when you don't intend to concieve is like cooking for a dinner party you're not going to throw..."

dr's with a sense of humor are ftw.

also, the map fabric....while the finished product will look fabulous, i am resisting, with all my limited will-power, the desire to draw a dotted line and an old fashioned "x" on the damn thing. :D

I also wish to put sea-monsters and "here there be dragons" on it as well.

hey...you hired me. xP

Dearest..........

Seasonale has some pretty heavy side effects. Any BCP can be stacked like the seasonale, you just don't take the placebo pills. I do it with my Yasmine.
and what Surlywench said is correct. Female docs have been stacking their pills for years. There is no good reason for us to bleed every month. There are alot of good articles on this out there.

And FWIW - I use my pill to control my ovarian cysts and to help with the hormonal mood swings.

Good luck and *hugs*

I've been stacking my monophasic b/c pill since I was 18. Now and then I stopped, just to see if it was still there. Ta-da. It is. ;)

The FDA newly approved Liberale. No periods. None. Ever.

I've never experienced any side effects either.

I had to do a lot of research when diagnosed three years ago, if you want I can share some really great tidbits.

Like Garlic Honey helps get rid of cysts, and keep them from coming back.

I agree with what the other posters are saying in terms of other BC being used "off label" for stacking. This is something a number of patients at PP did with no problems. The only trouble is that insurance doesn't always cover such frequent refills. (But if you don't mind paying out of pocket, it can be a good way to go.)

BTW, the [livejournal.com profile] pcos community here has some pretty decent information, and firsthand accounts of people on Metformin, etc. Thought I'd toss out a rec.

Agreed with what everyone's said above. The pill I'm on now (Nordette) has levonorgestrel as the progestin--the same as Seasonale & Seasoninque, and I have to say, it SUCKS. My face looks like a mine field--the acne is worse than it ever was when I was a teenager.

I've been stacking my pills since I started taking the pill. I just went to the doc yesterday and got a scrip to go back on Lo/Ovral. That's norgestrel as the progestin, and an eminently more friendly androgen (quite a bit weaker than levonorgestrel.) I can't wait for my face to clear back up.

Basically, you can stack any monophasic pill--it's the ones like Ortho-Tricyclin and the like (triphasic or diphasic pills) that you can't do that with.

when they thought I had PCOS they gave me some sort of glucophage or something similar in the hopes that it would help me with weight loss.

It didnt work for me - but then.....I was misdiagnosed anyway so...

look into it. it might be worth it.
