Holy crap. Who waved a lucky clover over Rasmussen?
No, seriously, whatever problems he's had time-trialling in the past were completely gone today. He turned in a blistering run, and-- wow-- maintains the Maillot Jaune by a minute. And considering he's one of the best mountain climbers in the world, he's shot himself up into contention for keeping the jersey to the end in Paris. He accepted yet another lion with a look of "Holy @#*&%! WOOT!" Probably mixed with a good bit of "Screw you, Denmark!"
Even more interesting, the top time today went to a rider everyone assumed was out of contention entirely: Alexandre Vinokourov. He won the stage commandingly, and remember, he's done this with stitches in almost every limb, and after miming to the cameras last week that he was done. He finished stages in tears. People thought he'd be leaving the Alps in an ambulance. And now, as I write, he's accepting the Stage Trophy. Wow.
Also, note to self? See Albi before I die.
And Levi Leipheimer has moved from 8th to 5th. Tomorrow, I read Harry Potter in front of the TV.
