I have one, brief, explosive vent:

"Those men and women are fighting over there so you can live free over here!"

Bullshit. I lived free here before we ever got to Iraq. There were no WMD, there was no tie to 9/11. Our sending men and women to die in Iraq didn't have one fucking thing to do with my ability to go out and buy a loaf of bread at ShopRite. And I find it wilfully ignorant and jingoistic to grossly twist the reasons our friends and relatives went there just so some people can beat others over the head with the "disloyal" and "unpatriotic" club.

Now that we HAVE destroyed the country and further destabilised the region, of course, we have shiny new terrorist cells everywhere, born of radical Islamic rage. But call a spade a fucking spade: this is a problem we had a large hand in creating in the first place.

but now we have cheap oil. you can't deny that! gas used to be, freaking, like a dollar a gallon back in the old days. now it's practically free -- it would be more expensive to run our cars off sewer water.

I have had this thought for a long time, but have been afraid to say it..

I live in an area with a high percentage of people either in the military, have family in the military, are Veterans, or support Bush!
I can't say a word without getting it from all sides...

What happened to Free Speech?

Ok, I have a comment on this topic.
I come from a family with very strong military ties.
My father was a Marine (served in WWII)
My sister's husband is retired Navy (30 years)
I have 2 nephews in the Navy (one was in the Middle East but now is back, the other leaves for Guam next week)
My neice's husband is Army (got back from the Middle East this past summer).
I was a Navy wife for 15 years (he was deployed overseas most of the time while I raised our child alone).
I believe that our family has done its share for the military and we are blessed that they are all still alive (except for my father)
NOW, here is my comment-
My daughter is a 24 year old college graduate who will begin her Masters Degree next month. Due to health reasons she is considered to be 4F and deemed to be unacceptable to serve in the Armed Forces.
Now, here is my character flaw if anyone cares to know,
I AM SELLFISH AND I THANK GOD THAT I DON'T HAVE TO GIVE UP MY CHILD TO GO AND FIGHT IN THIS WAR!
Now, if you agree with me, fine, if you disagree, Well, I really don't give a shit, and you can kiss my patriotic ass!
