Un. Fucking. Believable.
Floyd Landis was a dead man yesterday. Honest to G-d dead. Over eight minutes behind. He bonked, hard, on yesterday's ride-- not enough water, not enough food-- and his body completely gave out. Everyone thought he was completely-- absolutely, completely-- out of it. What a shame. That's too bad.
And now he's got his first ever stage win, and is 30 SECONDS from yellow. They're calling it "the greatest single-day ride in the modern-era Tour de France." He took off on the first climb-- an hors categorie climb!-- and NONE of the leaders could catch him. This is amazing. This is fucking LAZARUS.
Unbelievable.
Oscar Pereiro is still in yellow, and there were friendly hugs and grins after the finish. I mean, no matter what your GC standings, you have to be in awe of what Floyd did today. And he got off the bike still fighting! I can only imagine the adrenaline high, but the normally easy-going young man was definitely living up to his red hair, making the swarming press back off, and telling Frankie Andreu flat out that he intends to win. He doesn't care about the stage win-- he's here to win. (Though, on the podium, oh, he definitely looked like he cared.) He stoked his body all day with countless water bottles and frequent food, and the look in his eyes as he accepted his trophy and bouquet, then waved to the crowd-- he's on fire.
