It might be official.
Mar. 22nd, 2004 12:50 amThis may be the worst cold I've ever had.
I went into the bathroom to blow my increasingly-red nose-- I've gone through two double-rolls of toilet paper today, btw-- to find that my lips are actually bloody-- they have actually cracked. First time ever. Go, me.
My head is pounding, I'm longing to rip my own face off and sandblast my sinuses, and there are sounds coming out of my own lungs that at first made me think the kitten was caught in the closet again, this time being tortured by orcs. No, I can't take cold medicines: they make me nervous, dizzy, and agaited. So instead I'll be miserable, achy, and bitchy. Woo.
Even better, something's wrong with Clue. She lies down for about five seconds, then she's up again. Wanders a little, looks at me, lies down again for five seconds, gets up, wanders again. She's thrown up six or so times today, and refuses to eat. At the same time, her stomach sounds normal and when I palpitate it, doesn't seem to cause her any pain. She's not whining, not hot to the touch. Still comes to me for butt-scratches. When I walk her, she seems not to want to squat-- and she's stretching her back legs a lot-- but she jumps and plays with her leash quite happily.
She's down at the bottom of the stairs now-- it's comparatively cold there, and she likes to sleep there. Tonight, it's the only place she seems content to stay for more than five minutes.
I called Penn earlier, and the nurse on duty listened quite kindly, but had to admit I'd stumped her. She suggested I watch Clue closely, and if she doesn't get any worse, to take her to her own vet first thing in the morning, as it's $100 to walk in the door at Penn. Well, $97 after 10, but let's not be picky. I would rather not go there at all if I can avoid it, as the last time I was in that building, I was bringing home Kayli in a small cedar chest. Perhaps taking Clue there and bringing her home again will lessen that particularly searing memory, but I don't feel any compelling need to work that theory right now.
My G-d, what a horrible few months it's been.
