Just finished a corset-- all but opening the posts for the busk. In the last stitches, down the homestretch, I broke four needles. The cursing was fairly intense. What does Clue do? She comes over and puts her head down on the table beside the machine, batting her lashes at me. She KNOWS I cannot resist That Look. So I hug her, take a deep breath, and keep going. And keep cursing. So since that doesn't work, she nudges closer, and puts her hot-doggy-breath nose in my lap, panting up at me, with her big brown-and-blue eyes, ears flat, gaze unwavering. I stop and pet her until my blood pressure goes down, and keep going. After a bit, she starts to move away, until I curse again. There she is, pantpantpant, until I'm just about done.

In the end, realising she couldn't dissuade me from this obvious course of homo sapien madness, she prudently took up a post just behind me as I put the last stitches in the stomacher. Now I'm done, and she's snoozing by the couch.

She usually only does this when I'm screaming at my computer. I guess, in her brain, stress is stress no matter whence it cometh.

Bless that puppy.

Oh, and my dog-walking run routine has started again. When I did this two years ago, I was heartened to see how quickly I went from not being able to jog half a block to being able to make it the whole way around the complex. Once again, I seem to be improving rapidly. Not being able to run from my garage to work has disgusted me, and I WILL get some semblance of brief endurance back. So far, so good-- I actually did it twice today, and surprisingly (happily!) got further in the evening than I had in the afternoon. I'm pleased. Clue seems to approve, too.

UNCONDITIONAL LOVE, THIS IS WHY I HAVE PETS! And, they do lower stress levels. I have worked in numerous medical facilities that use pet therapy as a supplement to conventional medicine. You are lucky to have your girl, just as she is to have a wonderful mommy like you.

We've been trying the dog/woman/bicycle thing. It goes pretty well, though Saoirse hasn't quite gotten the "Left, puppy! Left!" thing down yet...
