Check this out.
Mar. 8th, 2006 04:10 pmI haven't booked this yet. I'm iffy on the day trip to Scotland, though I'd love to say I'd been there, if only for a few hours. But all this? Under $2,000. Which, as
emalia said this morning, is more money to spend on other things. Like boots.
This is all through Expedia, btw. I'm still quite open to suggestions and advice.

Date: 2006-03-09 01:05 am (UTC)Also, you've clearly made the right choice with BA's Triple-7! You may unfondly remember the dreary, slow, cramped, loud, uncomfortable days of earlier aircraft (you probably took a DC-10 over last time?) - but the 777s that BA now uses exclusively are a roomy joy, and of course BA's food and service is close to the best, of the European carriers. (I simply don't fly on other than 777s, or sometimes, 747-400s - and if you think I'm being picky, you've probably never been on an eighteen-hour flight, much less the blink-of-an-eye six hours to Britain!)
Overall, your plan sounds great, if possibly a bit pricey - although I know it includes transfers, and I don't know how much the Edinburgh daytrip costs. I've always found Expedia to, quite distinctly and consistently, rank second to Travelocity. A fairly close second perhaps, but I've found over the past five or six years that Expedia tends to miss some flight options, is harder to use, and has always been more expensive than Travelocity, at least for my last five international flights for which I've made precise head-to-head comparisons.
Bottom line? After you check Travelocity and Sam's Club Travel, book it! But wait to decide on the Edinburgh trip until you're there - you can always reserve with only a day's notice for most of those type of things! (A few times in a fit of spontaneity, I've even reserved tours in Japan or Britain just by walking up to the concierge or bell captain's desk mere minutes before departure.) So have fun!!
