Farewell to Coretta Scott King.
Jan. 31st, 2006 09:46 amCoincidentally, this was the first year I felt like I actually used MLK Day as an In-Service day.
She will definitely be missed. Sigh. Will her work ever be done?

Date: 2006-02-01 02:16 pm (UTC)It's an odd mix of pragmatism and idealism, and I sure as hell don't think any particular sub-culture on this planet has it right so far (except maybe the Bhuddists). Even amidst the sarcasm and exaggerated bits, I'm sure you've noticed by now I'm a bit of an angry person in regards to society as a whole and nobody is safe from my observations. White, black, gay, straight, Cristian, Muslim, Republican, Democrat: nobody escapes from the problems permanently. It'll be that way until things change. Unfortunately, so many people are a part of the problem that change isn't likely. Unfortunately, so many people are sheep and told what to think, how to think, what to believe, how to believe, and need somebody to tell them what to do and keep them safe.
Not everyone likes what I have to say either, or at least not all the time. To most of the world it's black or white while I see all the shades of gray in between (which is pretty much where I exist). Regardless, I speak my mind. If I'm wrong and can be shown I'm wrong, I'll admit it, but until somebody can show me conclusively I'm wrong, my thoughts stand.
I'm also realistic enough to know I'm not perfect and I don't have all the answers. I do, however, see the problems and I'm not afraid to speak out about them. Is it enough? Probably not, but I do what I can. Maybe once I start getting my stories published/produced and my music heard that will be a better, more subtle medium (but probably not). Until then, I do what I can.
